TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

We decided to create a spider diagram of what makes people scared and particularly our target audience of age 16-24:

When researching genre's we decided that our teaser trailer would be a hybrid genre of the 'horror'/ 'thriller' section. We then continued to research thriller films on www.youtube.com to inspire us for our trailer. The ones that stood out to us were:

- The Strangers

- Saw

- Gothika

-Scream

Each one of them gave us a new idea for our thriller.

Saw gave us the idea of using short shots without revealing too much of the story line. Gothika had an affective shot which appealed to us, this was where the camera shot was an extreme close up on the main characters eye and it then zoomed out and her eye transformed into one of the film companies logo. The Strangers gave us the idea of being able to create a thriller without the use of gore and blood like many other stereotypical horrors we found. Finally scream showed us that props and costume plays an important part in simplified horror. As the 'villain' uses mysterious phone calls and a now symbolic mask to convey most of the horror in the trailer.

We decided to compile a list of initial thoughts when you think of horror, below are some of the key elements came up with that apply to constructing our trailer;

-Blood (This lead to us thinking of filtering a shade of red in a lot of shots as it symbolises death)

-death

-villain

-victim

-isolated settings for example a deserted mental asylum

- screams

-violence

GENRE RESEARCH

We all did questionnaires and came up with the idea of making a thriller teaser trailer, this was due to most people saying they were interested in thrillers. Our target audience will be between the age range of 15-24. We chose this target audience due to the most popular ages being between teens and young adults.

We decided to do a small set of question to ask people within our target audience, these questions being:

What attracts you to a thriller movie?

Does certain soundtracks interest you?

Do the stars within the film attract you to go and watch it?

Is it the story line or the genre that attracts you to watch a movie?
